About

Nice to meet you, I'm Kimberley, I’m an avid crocheter and coder. I lean towards front end development and digital communication but my experience with back end and embedded engineering gives me great context of how all the parts work together. I’m constantly learning new languages and frame works and seeing how they can bend to create something cute and fun. In my current practice I’m learning how to play with AR and P5.js which is exciting, can’t wait to share those projects soon.

Muppet OOP listing app

SCRUM project - team of 8

PHP, OOP, SQL, HTML and CSS

Displays all muppets in a UI built in line with a created wireframe. Allows users to click on individual muppets to reveal more information, search for specific muppets by name (including partial text searches) and bring up more information about a random muppet.

Paper-Weight World

Collection App (Individual Project)

PHP, SQL, HTML, CSS

A responsive app to view, and contribute through a HTML form, to a collection of paperweights.

Full-stack (team project)

Node.js, SequalPro, React, JS, Material UI, HTML

A social media site that uses third-party authentication (JSON web tokens) to create private user accounts. We worked in a scrum team of eight, with a scrum master.

Snake Sweeper

JavaScript Game (SCRUM project - team of 8)

JavaScript, HTML, CSS

A game where users must find all the lynx in the forest before they run out of lives or get bitten by too many snakes. The size of the forest and the amount of lynx is defined by the user and is randomly generated at the start of each game. We also added functionality to keep track of the current score and remaining lives.

Acadamy Portal Legacy Code

Online Aptitude Test Build (SCRUM project - team of 8)

JavaScript, React, Bootstrap, CSS, HTML

An app that replicates a prospective student applying to the IO academy. This is a legacy project with a list of bugs that need to be fixed.

wireframe for muppet site

Build

We created this app in OOP applying SOLID principles where possible. I worked on designing, creating and implementing the wireframes. As well as the hydrator/entity classes to receive and display data from a SQL database. The project utilised autoloading and namespacing throughout, validated and sanitised all user inputs before database insertion and unit tested our methods with PHPUnit.

Build

I designed a set of wireframes and made them responsive using media queries at various common breakpoints. The paperweights are stored in a Sequel Pro Database and accessed through multiple fetch requests. Users input new items using a form so all inputs are sanitised before entering the database. All functions created in the project were successfully unit tested.

Build

We designed clear and simple wireframes, then used material UI components to implement them in React. We created the backend API in node JS and the database in sequel pro. We decided to break the MERN stack as we needed a relational database. Each user profile dynamically displays the users own posts, bio and user name. We applied front end validation to the sign-up and login pages, as well as JSON web tokens to restrict access to protected pages. This project is still in progress, in future we would like to add more functionality and refactor the front end into an atomic design.

Build

We manipulated the DOM using event listeners and conditionals to create the interactive elements of the game. I focused on generating the randomised squares when a new game is started and the functionality that triggers a Modal to appear if the game is won/lost. A static band across the top of the screen records and displays the number of lives used and the number of lives left.

Build

This is a legacy code base, built using Javascript and PHP in a slim framework. We pair programmed to fix a bug that caused applicants to have student status even if they weren't yet one. This was fixed by adjusting the conditional to a strict equals operator. We then improved the UX of the 'next stage' modal to show the stage the applicant was currently on and the stage they were moving to. To do this we created a wireframe and worked with the existing colour pallet.

Build

I started by creating the API using Node.js with the Express.js framework. Then I created a collection of to-dos in MongoDB and accesses them using HTTP verbs. I checked the POST, DELETE and PUT requests using postman and Handlebars Templating Engine to check the GET requests. To give access to the API on the front end I installed CORS, then I built the front end using Material UI components. Manipulating the DOM to make the app interactive.
